The second movie was about humans thinking that it was all over and that we would be able to advance our tech level enough to meet them on a level playing field by the time they sent a new mothership to investigate why the first one had gone silent. They they take what they need to resupply and move on. Then the mothership moves in and sends in the troops to wipe out the natives before the engineers take over and prep the planet for harvest.
